Jewelry Care
Follow these simple steps to avoid damage to your Bold Aura Jewellery.
To protect your jewellery, we recommend storing pieces individually, as jewellery can become scratched if in contact with other pieces. It is advised to store in your Bold Aura box or jewellery pouch that you received when purchasing your item, to avoid metal or stone abrasion, and to ideally store somewhere dry with low humidity.
When storing your chain necklace or bracelet, always make sure to fasten the jewellery first, to prevent knots.
We advise removing jewellery when you shower or bathe, and particularly when on the beach, in the sea and in chlorinated water. It is also advisable that you do not wear your jewellery during exercise, gardening or any activity that involves exposing your jewellery to repeated knocking, scratching, or hard and abrasive surfaces.
It is recommended that jewellery with stone settings, should be checked periodically to ensure the prongs holding the stone are not worn down or damaged, which could lead to the stone to becoming loose.
Prolonging Your Jewellery’s Good Condition
We recommend cleaning your jewellery regularly using appropriate professional jewellery cleaning products, and having your jewellery professionally cleaned and serviced every 6 months to a year.
Caring For 18ct Gold
To prevent damage to your White, Yellow, or Rose Gold jewellery, we recommend you store it safely away from other pieces to avoid unnecessary scratches. Gold should be kept away from harsh chemicals, such as cleaning and beauty products, to avoid discolouration to the metal.
Caring For Sterling Silver
Silver jewellery will naturally tarnish over time, the amount of tarnishing (oxidation) that occurs is dependent on the skin and care habits of the wearer.
We recommend cleaning your jewellery using lukewarm soapy water and a soft brush and then finish by polishing with a soft cloth to prevent the natural process of tarnishing.
Caring For Diamonds
Diamonds are well known for their hardness on the Mohs scale, however, they can still be chipped or cracked when knocked and care should be taken to avoid harsh contact when worn.
Diamonds can be easily cleaned using a small amount of liquid soap in hot water and dried using a lint-free cloth to remove any dirt and grease to bring back its shine.
Caring For Your Precious Stones
Stones may chip if hit with enough force. Gemstones such as Amethyst, Emerald, Opal, Pearl, Peridot, Tanzanite, and Tourmaline are very delicate and easily abraded.
Take care to avoid contact with nail polish remover, perfume, or hairspray. Alcohol, oil-based perfumes, and emollients can remove plating and damage gemstones. We advise removing your jewellery or wearing gloves when carrying out household chores that involve chemicals or abrasives.
Porous Gemstones
Porous gemstones, including Amber, Turquoise, Opals and Pearls can be stained by oils or liquids, so it is important to avoid contact with face creams, lotions, and household chemicals.
Most porous gemstones should not be cleaned with water or submerged in water, as this can cause discolouration and may damage them.
We recommend using a soft dry lint-free cloth to carefully remove any dirt that has gathered around the jewellery setting. Ultrasonic cleaning and steam cleaning are not advised to be used on porous stones.
Caring For Emeralds
Emeralds are infamous for their history and their deep luscious green colour is one that cannot be matched by another stone. They are even more precious as they are typically oil-treated to improve clarity and lustre. Due to this, it is recommended you don’t use steam or cleaning solutions, and only use warm water and soap, and polish with a lint-free soft cloth.
Sapphires & Rubies
Rubies and Sapphires are relatively hard on the Mohs scale, making these stones for everyday wear. However, alike to Diamonds, they can still be chipped or cracked when knocked and care should be taken to avoid harsh contact when worn.
Rubies and Sapphires can be easily cleaned using warm soapy water and a gentle soft brush and dried using a lint-free cloth to remove any dirt and grease. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually safe for untreated, heat-treated, and lattice diffusion treated stones.
